Sacramento Video Industry Professionals Meeting

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

I haven’t been to one this year- but I am going to try to make it out to the Sacramento VIP Meeting tonight (a Final Cut Pro User group).  The group is geared towards learning Final Cut Pro, Motion, etc, but they don’t only cater to Final Cut Pro users.  They also have speakers on pre-production, production and post production.  In fact, until the end of May, all members get a 20% discount on Adobe Software.

Tonight’s speakers will be Shawn Bockoven (streaming and compression technology using low or no cost compression software and techniques for web delivery) and Mark Herzig (an award winning cinematographer speaking on camera movements and lighting). The meeting and membership are free and are held at Peppers TV, at 3665 Bleckley St, Mather, Ca 95650– so you don’t have an excuse.  See you there.

Volunteer Sacramento: An Excellent Volunteer Opportunity

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Awhile back, Dumbworld wrote about Mayor Kevin Johnson challenging Sacramento residents to do 10 hours of community service apiece this year.  I thought I found an excellent opportunity to volunteer, but it ends up I have a schedule conflict, so I will have to find another event.  Regardless, I would like to share it in the hope that it will inspire others to volunteer.

Kaboom! leads playground builds across the nation, in which community members work side by side to build a playground in a day. A Build Day is scheduled for Saturday April 25th at the Salvation Army in Oak Park.  The playground was designed by local kids.  Check out the video below to see the kids on design day.

Go here for more details on the build and sign up to volunteer.  Don’t forget to tell your family and friends!

Cinco de Mayo Street Celebration in Sacramento

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

One of Dumbworld’s  favorite holidays has to be Cinco de Mayo.  Not much compares to sitting on Ernesto’s patio with a pitcher of top-shelf margaritas.  The Bee’s Bob Shallit has details on the city’s plans for a Cinco de Mayo celebration.

First it was a street closure for a New Year’s Eve ball drop in downtown Sacramento.

Last month, another street was blocked off for a St. Paddy’s Day party.

Next up: a Cinco de Mayo celebration that will shut down parts of two midtown blocks for an outdoor party.
