Check Out BIzaRRo Dumbworld

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Dumbworld  took a break from winning free PS3s and finding out which Twilight character I am most like to notice that there seems to be a blog  just like dumbworld- only different.  A Bizarro Dumbworld if you must.  Or is Dumbworld the Bizarro?  Bizarro Dumbworld is a pretty ticked off- while this Dumbworld is pretty chill.  This Dumbworld digs bunnies.

Sacramento– Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs 3D– Special Sneek Peak this Sunday, 6/21

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Hi Kiddies, here is Dumbworld’s softer side.  Just in time for Fathers Day, there is a special sneak preview of Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs at participating theaters, before its release on July 1st. If you are in the Sacramento area, you can catch it at Natomas Marketplace or Laguna Village.  Both theaters have a single showing, at around 2pm.  If you aren’t in Sacramento, you can see if it is playing near you here.  See the Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs trailer below.

Nightbeats Behind the Scene Video, the Sacramento Film and Music Festival, and Paper Hearts Trailer

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Awhile back, I had the opportunity to  see Sacramento filmmaker Mike Carroll shoot a scene from his feature Nightbeats.  I was a fan of his feature Year, so I jumped at the chance to shoot a small amount of behind the scenes footage, which is included in the video above.

Mike is unique in that he does one man, no-budget filmmaking; he writes, directs, produces, lights, and edits his films.  He also gives workshops on his process, and has plans for a book.  Obviously, he must be doing something right because Nightbeats was accepted into the Sacramento Film and Music Festival

The festival runs from July 24- August 2, and although the schedule of films for the festival has not been posted yet, from what I’ve heard, there should be a lot of really good films this year, including the Sundance award winning mockumentary, Paper Hearts, starring Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera (Arrested Development, Super Bad, Year One).  See the trailer below.

Also, I heard that the festival is looking for volunteers, so if you are into film and are interested, you can contact them on their website.

Free Movies in the Sacramento Area?

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

No really!  The only catch is that you have to get a library card.  In fact, you can order the DVDs online and pick them up at that branch of your choice (and there are lots of branches).  Elizabeth from examiner.com has the scoop.

Happy 1-Year Blogiversary to Dumbworld, and What Has Dumbworld Been Up To?

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

dumbworld001web1

Blogging has been uber slow for Dumbworld lately– but there are good things to come.

A) On May 29th, I ended my job of ten years (and a pretty good job at that) to branch off in a new direction.  About 5 years ago I started the journey to find something that I liked to do and get paid for it– and it is a little scary, but I found myself at a place where it was now or never.  Take the leap and see what happens.  No regrets, no doubts and no excuses.

B) Dumbworld has a new cable access show in the wings.

C) Dumbworld is ready to celebrate National Dumbworld Day.

D) Dumbworld has been shooting for the Sacramento hip hop showcase Life, every Thursday night at the Distillery (21st and L streets) for the last couple of months (Dumbworld also had the opportunity to shoot a KRS-one show).

So yeah– we have been busy– and are looking forward to letting you see some of the results.

Oh– also, peep the photo above.  The gifted and up and coming David Lee Dailey took portraits of us.  Get at me if you need quality photographic work done, and I will point you in his direction.

Best Regards,

Drew from Dumbworld
