Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

I followed Josh Fernadez’s writing in the Sacramento News and Review for some time (it was the first thing I read in every isssue, OK– I’m lying– the spicy personals were the first thing, but I digress), but who knew he was a pretty good poet too.

You can read some of his stuff here.  Josh will read from his latest collection on Thursday, August 20 at Luna’s Café, 1414 16th Street at 8 p.m.

90% of US Money Laced with Cocaine

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

money

I had heard this before, but always thought it was an urban legend.  Wonder where Sacramento rated:

The scientists found that larger cities like Baltimore, Boston, and Detroit had among the highest average cocaine levels. Washington, D.C., ranked above the average, with 95 percent of the banknotes sampled contaminated with the drug. The lowest average cocaine levels in U.S. currency appeared on bills collected from Salt Lake City.

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Tarantino alphabetically runs down his list of favorite movies released since he started directing movies (but he notes that Battle Royale is his favorite– I’m about to go and dig up my copy of it).  Glad to see Friday and Shaun of the Dead made the list.
