Dumbworld Has Left the Building

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

As of late, the Dumbworld blog has been silent.  We’ve been smelling the flowers, figuring out the equation for prime numbers and washing our hair.  It felt so nice, and the Dumbworld Blog feels like it has ran its course, so this will be our last post.

The Dumbworld Blog was started to promote Sacramento art, entertainment, media and (being the self promoting whores that we are) Dumbworld Productions.  So after over two years of blogging and over 440 posts (and Dumbworld Productions on a hiatus), it just feels like it is time to hang it up.

Please enjoy the archives, and you can follow the further adventures of Drew Hall at natkingturner.wordpress.com.  Remember, confidence is sometimes the feeling you have before you fully understand a situation.  So Long Suckers!

Looking for a 2010 Cinco de Mayo Celebration in Sacramento?

They are doing their yearly Cinco de Mayo celebration/festival on the 2700 block of J street again this year (includes Centro Cocina Mexicana and Harlowes).  If you haven’t been before, it is a huge party (go early to get in, or stand in line for awhile).  Starts at 4pm on May 5 till they shut it down.  There will be live music, a mariachi band and outdoor bars. heArt for the Kids

Later this month, Shane Grammer of SG studios is taking a team of artists to Svay Pak, Cambodia to paint murals with girls who were either rescued from or in danger of being forced into prostitution.

He is throwing a fundraising art show on April 8, 2010 that will include a silent auction of some of his work, along with the work of Aman, Jenvy Fox, and many others.  There will also be musical interludes by Dusty Brown, special guests, cocktails, food and a good vibe.

Above is part of one of the paintings that will auctioned off.  Shane explains some of the inspiration behind it below: (more…)

The Camera Really Does Add Ten Pounds. . .

What’s up with my moon face? But hey, it was for a good cause.  For MLK day, I did some (non-court ordered) community service through Sac Metro Edge.  We spent the morning cleaning up a park, and it felt pretty good to be out in the community doing something good.  Below is a video on the event, produced by Nohoch Productions.  To get involved in Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson’s Volunteer Sacramento go here.

Dumbworld Says, Get Some for Free- Be a Baller on a Budget. Celebrate Sacramento Museum Day (Unless you aren't in sacramento. If not, then celebrate your own museum day)

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Dumbworld recently took the show on the road to Chicago.  One thing that we brought back with us was an appreciation for a good museum (the Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry were a nerd’s paradise).  Museums are where they hide a lot of the cool stuff.

Sacramento has some pretty good museums of its own.  The Crocker Museum is always interesting, and it is always free on Sundays, from 10am-1pm.  The Crocker is a good place to take a date, especially if she is a nerd, as it makes you seem cultured and is easy on the wallet (in these tough economic times). Or if you are really trying to make a good impression (and spend little or no money), take said date out on February 6th for Sacramento Museum Day.  You get free admission to a slew of museums, which I am told are guaranteed to get the juices flowing. If you can somehow pull a “hey, let’s celebrate Valentines Day a week early this year”- now you’ve killed two birds with one stone.
