Sacramento painter, David Garibaldi is premiering his documentary “Walking Dreams” and performing live at the Sacramento Film and Music Festival on July 29th at 7:30pm at the Crest Theater. I met David in 2003 when he used to paint on Wednesday nights at the Fox and Goose. Even then, before his success, his story was pretty inspirational.
His paintings from the night will be auctioned off with the proceeds to benefit the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commision and their Advance Commuinty Through Arts and Culture program. See the trailer for Waking Dreams below and go to his blog to purchase tickets and get the rest of the story.
Vampires are in and all, but Dumbworld is probably going to burn for this one. Cult film, Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter is showing at MOBS in Sacramento on Easter Sunday, April 4th, 2010. 7:30 PM, Admission: $5.00, The Guild, 2828 35th St, Sacramento, CA 95817.
Combining kung-fu action with biblical prophecy and a liberal dose of humor, the film teams the Savior with Mexican wrestling hero El Santos against mythological horrors and science gone mad, and also manages to address contemporary sexual politics. Oh – and it’s a musical.
For some reason this really interested me. Matt Mariano, performing and recording the score to Made In China.
Update: Just saw some additional scenes from Made in China, and producer James Choi spoke on the film. Was shot on the HVX200, won the grand prize award at SXSW, was shot for “a little more than $10,000″ and got a distribution deal. Just shows what you can do with a good story.
As in the original film, every Predator is a trophy hunter and an expert in stalking and killing its prey, but each monster has its own specialized skill. There’s a falconer Predator who has a little UAV that serves as its eyes in the sky, a dog handler Predator (we got to see production art of its dog, sort of a dinosaur-wolf hybrid) and a “Super Predator” the production team refers to as “Mr. Black.”
Rodriguez is a writer and producer on the project. A trailer was up but has been removed by 20th Century Fox. The movie comes out in July.
