RYAN SENG on ANDY FRIEDMAN

Andy Friedman and I meet back in art school in 1993 NYC. Andy’s natural drawing and painting ability out shines most I have ever seen. His work on paper has evolved in to his day job as an illustrator for the New Yorker and the New York Times.

But It seems to me that the real “Fire of Friedman” comes out in his music. After five plus years of traveling the country on tour Andy has really come out with something unique and relevant. This new album is looking for new ways to talk while humming along with his own fought and found voice and beat.

“Weary Things” is a great accomplishment and I am happy to have him come through Sacramento so I can celebrate along with the rest. Come out this Saturday and see what I mean.

See you there,

-Ryan Seng

The Future of Digital Cinema (Digital Projection) and It May Help Out You, the Independent Filmmaker

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Or at least that is what this guy thinks.  It sounds like some of the studios will pay up to $1000 per a “virtual print” to offset the $70,000 dollars it costs to upgrade to the new systems.  But don’t believe me– let him tell you himself, why it helps you out (if you are an independent filmmaker).

Move Over Content, Is Distribution King?

Monday, January 26th, 2009

I guess there shouldn’t really have been a Eureka moment for Dumbworld, when I read the column, Who Rules New Media Economy by Daisy Whitney.  An excerpt below:

Now, when it comes to the Web and you have zillions and zillions of Web sites and there is so much good content, you often aren’t aware of it because it can’t all get traction,” (Ran Harnevo, CEO of how-to video syndication service 5min.com)  said.

Distribution then becomes more important, especially for videos. “If you want to know how to make sushi, you’ll usually click on the first few videos that show up,” Mr. Harnevo said. “If someone wins at distribution and has average content, you would still spend time there.”

Initially, Dumbworld took the poll that went with the article and was happy with my answer (after all– who doesn’t want to be like everybody else).  But after reading the article, I went and changed my answer because I feel that saying “Audience is King” is like throwing my hands in the air.  I’m curious what your answer is.
