There are so many people in this movie.  Dude from Reno 911-  Yeah he is in it.

Granted I haven’t seen a lot of the other choices for the Oscars this year. Why so many? Last year I said, I was going to have an Oscar party.  It didn’t happen.  I am OK with that.

Definitely when I get my ballot in the mail this year, I’m writing in Black Dynamite- fool is a bad ass with the nunchucks-  if you know what is good for you- you will too.

What Kind of Blogger Would Dumbworld Be If I Didn't Jump on the Slumdog Millionaire Bandwagon?

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

I haven’t seen Slumdog Millionaire yet, but I just saw an interview with 2009 Oscar and ASC (American Society of Cinematography) Best Cinematography Winner for Slumdog Millionaire Anthony Dod Mantle from Pixel Heads Network.  Among other things, Mantle talks about HD versus Film, the look and feel of Slumdog, and advice for up and coming cinematographers.  OK– Dumbworld is now officially jumping off the bandwagon until I see the movie.

The Pawnbroker (1964)-

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

Just watched the pawnbroker.  Brock Peters, who plays the businessman (OK. . . I mean gangster) Rodriguez,  also sang back-up on the Harry Belafonte hit- “Day-O.”  He punches an old man in the face– which is something you don’t usually see in movies these days.  Also, Quincy Jones did the music, and one of the songs is Soul Bossa Nova (which is now popular from Austin Powers– you’d recognize it, if you heard it).

Kind of a slow movie (if you are in that mood)– but I liked it.

More recent movies that some of the elements reminded me of: Requiem for a Dream and Do the Right Thing.

Cool Shot: 3 hoods enter the pawnshop with an old electric lawn mover. the camera, at the level of the lawnmower dollys back, as the lawnmower, pushed by the hoods, rolls toward the store owner, Sol.

This guy does a better job of reviewing it.
