About 4 years ago, I attended a discussion panel on filmmaking at the Sacramento International Film Festival where Deon Taylor was a speaker. Something he said that day made him stand out as one of the smartest people in the room, and a name to remember. (more…)

We slept on this because that is what we do best, but for an independent filmmaker out of Sacramento to get theatrical distribution is a pretty impressive accomplishment. Congratulations Deon! I can’t think of any others off the top of my head. If you know of any, let me know.
Sacramento filmmaker Deon Taylor is on the verge of a huge breakthrough: a national theatrical release for his horror film, “Chain Letter,” that was filmed here.

Dumbworld has to admit, it was a pretty cool feeling to see the commercials for Sacramento Filmmaker Deon Taylor’s Nite Tales on BET. I haven’t got a chance to check it out yet, but just the fact that somebody from Sacramento, who shoots his stuff locally got that far is very inspiring.
In case you missed last week’s Sacramento Bee article on Deon Taylor, here it is.

Sactown magazine has a great article on why there aren’t more Hollywood movies shot in Sacramento and shows what some local filmmakers are doing to change it (Including the filmmakers from Redwood Palms Pictures and Joe Carnahan and Deon Taylor).
Sacramento mayor Heather Fargo’s support for filmmaking is described as “anemic,” this despite the positive economic impact of having films shoot in Sacramento. Just across the county line, the El Dorado County Film Commision works hard to bring films to El Dorado County– maybe Sacramento should pay attention.
Check it out if you get a chance (sorry– it is not on the web– but I guess that is how they sell magazines, right)?
