MarketingProfs has some advice on how to use the free tools that Facebook provides to put some oomph in your film, band, event or company’s marketing plan. Dumbworld’s favorite is the Fan Page as it is indexed by search engines:
Fan Pages. Start one, so that lovers of your brand can keep track of your latest campaigns and updates. Updates appear on the newsfeeds of users, so keep your page well-populated with timely and interesting material. These pages are visible to unregistered Facebook users, too, and—best of all—they’re indexed by search engines.

Dumbworld just picked up “Guerrilla Marketing Online Weapons” ( Jay Conrad Levinson and Charles Rubin) from the library (part of Levinson’s Guerrilla Marketing serious). Admitedly, it is old (no, ancient– 1996), so a lot has changed with the internet since it was first published (social networking, blogs, etc), but it is a very easy read, the concepts are useful (at least to me) , and it doesn’t take much imagination to apply them to the present online environment.
On a related tip (and more current), the 60 Second Marketer has a free blog list of 51 Low Cost or No Cost Ways to Promote Your Business During a Recession.
Hate to be a spoiler, but my favorite is #51:
“51. Take 500 $1 bills with a yellow stickie on them. Write your URL on the yellow stickie with a mention that the first person to contact you off of your website gets another $500. Go into an office building, a mall or a hotel with an atrium. Throw the 500 $1 bills with your URL on them off the balcony. Video tape it and upload the video to YouTube. Promote the YouTube video on your website. Watch the buzz start flowing almost immediately. “
Any other suggestions for good sources on Marketing and Promotions?

Dumbworld knows the importance of knowing what people are saying about your brand online. Marketing Profs offers up 6 free tools for online reputation management. One of the six free tools is Google Alerts.
Dumbworld can vouch for the importance of using Google Alerts. Last year we got a web domain (Dumbworldorder.com– still under construction), but Dumbworld.com was not available.
Jump to a couple of weeks ago. Dumbworld started using Google Alerts. The planets were all in line, a butterfly in Thailand flapped its wings, and we got a Google Alert for a guy’s blog who was putting Dumbworld.com up for sale on Ebay (for the price of a couple of packs of swishers and a Rockstar Roasted Light Vanilla)! We are now the proud owners of Dumbworld.com.
Without Google Alerts, I’m not sure how we would have found out about the auction. I am going to have to go without my Rockstar Roasted today, but Thank You Google Alerts.

A list Dumbworld got from Marketing Profs. My favorite is:
Stop Twittering, Start Working
Twitter has some very useful applications, but 90% of the information on the site has little to no importance to any of us. Unless you have a plan to monetize, stop wasting your time and start doing something productive. Just because you have 2,000 followers, does not mean anyone really cares what you are doing at 7AM Saturday morning!
I don’t use Twitter, but I’m sure you could say the same thing about MySpace. I can waste a perfectly good half hour on MySpace without getting much in return.
