Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

While watching shows online is convenient, and the user experience is constantly improving, you lose the ability to watch shows in a group or to comfortably show an episode to friends when the programming is confined to a computer screen.

Peter Wylie from Fierce Online Video notes a small but promising step in online video series making there way to your television screen.

Do You Know What People are Saying About You?: Six Free Tools for Online Reputation Management

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Dumbworld knows the importance of knowing what people are saying about your brand online. Marketing Profs offers up 6 free tools for online reputation management. One of the six free tools is Google Alerts.

Dumbworld can vouch for the importance of using Google Alerts.  Last year we got a web domain (Dumbworldorder.com– still under construction), but Dumbworld.com was not available.

Jump to a couple of weeks ago.   Dumbworld started using Google Alerts.  The planets were all in line, a butterfly in Thailand flapped its wings, and we got a Google Alert for a guy’s blog who was putting Dumbworld.com up for sale on Ebay (for the price of a couple of packs of swishers and a Rockstar Roasted Light Vanilla)!  We are now the proud owners of Dumbworld.com.

Without Google Alerts, I’m not sure how we would have found out about the auction.  I am going to have to go without my Rockstar Roasted today, but Thank You Google Alerts.

10 Keys to Online Marketing Success

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

A list Dumbworld got from Marketing Profs.  My favorite is:

Stop Twittering, Start Working

Twitter has some very useful applications, but 90% of the information on the site has little to no importance to any of us. Unless you have a plan to monetize, stop wasting your time and start doing something productive. Just because you have 2,000 followers, does not mean anyone really cares what you are doing at 7AM Saturday morning!

I don’t use Twitter, but I’m sure you could say the same thing about MySpace.  I can waste a perfectly good half hour on MySpace without getting much in return.
