Later this month, Shane Grammer of SG studios is taking a team of artists to Svay Pak, Cambodia to paint murals with girls who were either rescued from or in danger of being forced into prostitution.

He is throwing a fundraising art show on April 8, 2010 that will include a silent auction of some of his work, along with the work of Aman, Jenvy Fox, and many others.  There will also be musical interludes by Dusty Brown, special guests, cocktails, food and a good vibe.

From the Capital Film Arts Alliance’s Newsletter, 10 Tips for Networking for Filmmakers. In part, it is based off a list for London filmmakers (my people!!!) from Raindance.org.

I don’t usually post entire articles, but this is worth it. If you are a filmmaker in the Sacramento area, and you aren’t a CFAA member, go to CFAA meetings, or don’t receive the weekly newsletter, you should be (contact them and ask to be added to the list.  Tell them Dumbworld sent you).  Whatever meager amount of success Dumbworld has had is in part due to Laurie Pederson and networking with the CFAA, and like Laurie says, “It is not what you know; it is who you know.”

1. Memento
Remember the power of little notes that Leonard Shelby used in Chris Nolan’s film. Use his tips even if you have not “this condition” – use the power of business cards. Take and collect them from anyone who gives them to you: you might not know when you need a help of make-up artist or a professional florist. Make your own business cards especially for your filmmaking “you”. If you are a student you can use some cheap resources – like free business cards templates or www.vistaprint.co.uk

First, I didn’t know there was a Tower Theater in Roseville (421 Vernon Street, Roseville, CA 95678).  Second, tickets are $3 per person (the average ticket price of a movie in ’73) for filmmaker Hector Marquez’s No Parking.  Third, it is for a good cause.  All Ticket Sales Proceeds will be Donated to the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  Cool.

October 25th, world premiere of No Parking, 5pm, with the support of the city of Roseville.  Starts with cars and cocktails, they show the movie, then a afterparty at BASIC.  No.  Very cool.

Above is one of them (starring Major League Baseball player Derrek Lee) — the password is “dumbworld”  The commercials are each one in a series, called “Capitol Proformance Allstars.”  Each one stars a different professional baseball player that trains with Capitol Proformance.  The baseball players are Derrek Lee, Nick Johnson, Brad Kilby, and Sean Shoffit.
